What more can be said about Brad Moss that hasn’t already been said? Guitarist extraordinaire. A lyrical mind rarely seen, let alone at his humble age of 19. His music? A unique blend of pop-rock he’s termed “Steamfunk.” Brad is a creative tornado from Richmond, VA, notorious for his late hours and work ethic, and widely praised for his quality, diverse, imaginative output. Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, you name it, he not only has his hands in it, but has his grip firmly fixed around it. “In today’s world,” he remarks, “you have to be able to handle yourself in a myriad of situations, especially to keep control of what is rightfully yours.” And what exactly is his – what belongs to him? “Steamfunk is the word,” he says. I would try to tell you what exactly “Steamfunk” is, but it may be better to let Brad explain. “Steamfunk is an amalgamation of everything that is rhythmic, quality, heartfelt, and really means something across all genre and time barriers,” Brad explains. “It’s a well learned music – I was in a jazz band for years studying. When I would come home at night I would study traditional indigenous musics. Then I’d go listen to some old Prince records. That’s what keeps it funky – synthesis.” And funky it is. Brad is actually working on a mixtape to demonstrate this funk that consists completely of covers of songs that he particularly enjoys, but reinvented Steamfunk style. This will be the much anticipated followup to his debut effort “Jack N Ur Stereo,” which is already available at bradmossisreal.com. “Jack N Ur Stereo” is a 5 song, extremely honest, personal, instantly likable dose of Steamfunk as only Brad can deal. A spectrum-spanning, sex-charged tour de force, it thoroughly lubricates the palate in its 25 minute running time. “I wanted to make a record that really captures my youth while I still have it,” he seriously remarks, although he’ll still have it for a while. This youth is clearly demonstrated in his online TV series broadcast over Youtube – Up, Up, Up: The Real Brad Moss. Brad broadcasts his life as a musician, and human being, in weekly installments on his youtube channel, youtube.com/therealbradmoss. His witty, concise, and often comedic antics pepper the show between the activities of his occupation like songwriting, recording, promoting, and performing. On top of all this, Brad also produces other artists. He, and his partner Uriyah, under the moniker “The 1st Kind,” have credits on many mixtapes and albums, including their most recent project, rapper Hen’s mixtape “Appetizer.” Brad’s here, so don’t run scared – embrace him.
